Angel Merkel, the German Chancellor has warned Europe has a long way to go to solve its debt crisis, after Standard and Poor's downgraded the credit ratings of nine European countries. The rating's agency says the Eurozone countries are not as safe a bet for investment as they once were. France know joins Austria, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Cyprus as fellow victims of the economic downturn. Al Jazeera's Jacky Rowland reports from Paris.

As the Eurozone sinks deeper into the financial crisis, it's most reliable member, Germany, would be the most concerned. And as disillusionment with the political establishment sets in, support appears to be shifting to a new party that has no official stance on the EU or its troubles, as RT found out in Berlin. Despite hundreds of studies highlighting possible health risks such as hormonal imbalances and infertility, the EU has been unable to protect consumers. "It's a complicated issue. You've got lots of different national administrations, national legislations, different cultures", says Joe Hennon, a spokesperson for the European Commission for Environment.
